Dental Anxiety

The two relaxation tracks at the bottom of this page have been designed to help you to feel more comfortable and calm at the Dental Surgery. They will help you to feel positive before, during and after your appointment. One of the tracks has background music and the other doesn’t. The words are exactly the same. Please choose whichever track best suits your current environment. Usually people listen to the track in the waiting room before their appointment.

All you need to do is plug in your headphones, sit back and listen. There isn’t a right way or wrong way of listening. You’ll be completely awake and conscious at all times, but you might notice that your attention drifts off to other things, like what you’re going to eat for dinner and what you might be doing at the weekend – much the same as if you were day dreaming.

You’ll be able to respond immediately when someone calls your name and if it’s time for your appointment. The track lasts for 12 minutes, but it doesn’t matter if you don’t have time to listen to it all. It will still be beneficial.

You can listen to these tracks at any time, provided you have data or wifi available to your device.

If you don’t have headphones, there are still some things to help you listed below.

Who am I?

My name is Jayne Sarah and I am a Clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapist. I offer sessions from my therapy room in Westbury-on-Trym and through video chat online (Zoom, Skype, Whatsapp Video etc).

I help people to understand the basic neuroscience of how their brains work and then we use a positive, fun and gentle method of conversation and relaxation to reduce symptoms of anxiety, stress, low mood, irritability, phobias and any other aspects of personal change that you wish to make.

For more information about how the therapy works, for testimonials and to find out how I can help you, simply visit my website. You can get in touch with me by completing this contact form.

I have a facebook page that you can like and follow, if you wish.

Don’t have headphones?

If you don’t have any headphones with you, here are a few questions for you to ponder while you are waiting for your appointment:

  • What do you like about the room you are sitting in?
  • What’s the best joke you’ve heard in recent times?
  • How will having your dental appointment be beneficial to your future?
  • What are you most looking forward to about the coming days, weeks or months?

If you are experiencing feelings of anxiety then a wonderful and very simple thing that you can do to help yourself is to breathe long breaths out. I.e. Breathe in for two seconds and out for four. Then repeat. How long can you breathe out for?
